A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, April 8. DeKalb County Public Library has partnered with Agnes Scott College for a special family program about this rare event.
This program will take place on the campus of Agnes Scott College at the Bradley Observatory, 141 E College Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030.
Dr. Hubbard-James, assistant professor of astronomy, will give a brief lecture about eclipses. Participants will learn:
· What is a solar eclipse?
· Why are they so rare?
· Why do astronomers care about solar eclipses?
Afterward, participants will see a planetarium show and take a tour of the Beck Telescope in the Bradley Observatory.
Everyone will receive one pair of certified eclipse glasses provided by the STAR Library Network.
Registration required. Every child must be in attendance with an adult.
Please note that the observatory tour will involve stairs, and may not be accessible to all program participants.
