Discover new movies with our "Movie Club" series. In each episode, you will learn about a film in the library's collection, its cultural context, and what makes it noteworthy.
In this video, we will highlight Daughters of the Dust, the landmark 1991 film directed by Julie Dash. Daughters was the first film directed by an African American female director to receive general theatrical distribution. This video will share how this film connects with a larger movement known as the "L.A. Rebellion" and the movement's desire to challenge cinema's representation of people and their stories.
"Movie Club" will be released at 9:00 a.m. on our YouTube channel.
